Skate Lake Mac program of works rolls on

Skate Lake Mac rolls on this week with the construction on two new skate parks getting underway at Bernie Goodwin Memorial Park in Morisset and Thomas H Halton Park in Croudace Bay.

Both skate parks will be completed by the end of May 2021.

To complete the Skate Lake Mac program of works, work on a third skate park in Bahloo Reserve in Windale will start at the end of May, with construction to be completed by early September 2021.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said recreational spaces were really important to the community as they helped inspire and encourage people to be active and have fun.

“We have a very active skate community in Lake Macquarie and we know how popular these facilities are with families and children, so we want to bring more spaces like these to the City for people to enjoy,” Mayor Fraser said.

“It’s wonderful to see construction starting soon on our three new skate parks, I’m sure there are many excited kids right across our City, just waiting to try them out once they are completed.”

The new skate park at Bernie Goodwin Reserve will feature a quarter pipe, flatbanks, and hubbas, finished with a bespoke shelter, footpaths and landscaping. While, the facility at Thomas H Halton Park will be a street style skate park with elements for BMX and scooters.

The facility in Bahloo Reserve, Windale will be a flow park design suitable for all skill levels and disciplines, complete with a new playground.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Asset Management, Brendan Callander said the $2 million investment into the three locations will bring great value to the City.

“We have worked hard to bring these shared spaces and collaborative infrastructure together with something for everyone. I’m excited to see the community utilising the skate parks for years to come,” Mr Callander said.

The skate parks were designed in consultation with the community for each location.
