Shoalhaven has received a finalist award for Most Innovative Youth Week Program at the Local Government Week Awards 2023.
The judges said Shoalhaven’s Youth Week activities offered a fresh and empowering approach by creating opportunities for connections and positive social outcomes for young people in the region.
“It’s so important to have inspired activities that appeal to our young people and develop a vital sense of community,” said Mayor, Amanda Findley.
“The festival was a dynamic celebration of youth culture and creativity that was a credit to everyone involved.”
The standout event was the Night is Young Festival held earlier this year. This festival celebrated the creativity and potential of young members of the community, the Mayor said.
The festival featured 45 local musicians and performers, and 15 entrepreneurs got to sell their creative products after taking a free youth entrepreneurship course.
Eight local high school students gained work experience by managing sound, lighting, and stage operations.
Additionally, 30 young leaders from local youth committees contributed to the event’s design and helped manage it.
