MidCoast Council thanks Wollongong and Newcastle crews for helping hand

MidCoast Council has issued a big “thank you” to Wollongong City Council and City of Newcastle Council for their recent assistance with flood recovery works across the local government area.

Two pothole filling crews of four staff from Wollongong completed one-week stints on the MidCoast, helping local road work crews, MidCoast Council explained in a statement.

A spokesperson from Wollongong City Council said the organisation was proud to be able to lend a hand.

“Our guys put their hand up and offered to head up the coast and help out,” the spokesperson said.

“We are all incredibly proud of them.

“From all accounts they enjoyed their time in the region and said the MidCoast Council and its residents were a pleasure to deal with.”

City of Newcastle Council also sent a crew to the MidCoast to provide assistance.

MidCoast Council Mayor, Claire Pontin said the organisation was “beyond grateful” for the assistance of local and visiting council crews.

“It really shows what the Australian spirit is all about,” she said.

“Our crews will take all the help they can get following the floods. There was a lot of damage to so much of our infrastructure it is hard to comprehend.

“I want to thank all the different Council’s, that have offered and provided help to us following the destructive floods in May.”
