Review of AER exemptions framework for embedded networks

NSW

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has released an issues paper for its Review of the AER exemptions framework for embedded networks.

There are concerns about potential negative impacts on customer welfare due to the significant growth in these networks. The focus is on identifying potential harms and benefits for embedded network customers.

The outcome may lead to adjustments in guidelines, such as restrictions on residential network growth, strengthened protections for existing customers, and improved overall transparency in the embedded networks sector.

AER will hold an online information session on Wednesday 13 December 2023, at 3.30pm. This session will be an opportunity for councils to hear more about the key issues and ask the AER team questions.
