The Queensland Government has announced $3.29 million in funding for local council public safety projects for Logan, Somerset, Western Downs and Townsville.
Funded projects will deliver improved community safety through expanded CCTV networks, and grow local liveability with new park areas, and upgraded playgrounds and facilities, and include:
- Logan City Council – $2 million for a new Underwood Park carpark and associated works;
- Somerset Regional Council – $500,000 for upgrades to Honeywood and Stumer park playgrounds, new Fernvale and Lowood dog parks;
- Western Downs Regional Council – $40,000 for CCTV Security upgrades in Jandowae and Miles;
- Townsville City Council – $750,000 for Riverside Green and Aplins Weir Rotary Park Public Amenities.
Minister for Local Government and Water and Member for Warrego, Ann Leahy said the funding demonstrated the Government’s commitment to back local councils and deliver for Queenslanders.
“The Crisafulli Government is continuing to deliver for councils and their communities, as promised,” Minister Leahy said.
“We know that an important part of empowering councils is ensuring they have the funding support to deliver on local needs.
“That’s exactly what this funding will do for Logan, Somerset, Western Downs and Townsville. We’re investing in our state’s future and ensuring council can deliver the projects their communities really need to thrive.”
Member for Lockyer, Jim McDonald said this investment in local parks gives communities better places to play, relax and connect.
“Delivering $500,000 in park upgrades across our electorate means families can enjoy safer, more modern and welcoming outdoor spaces within their own neighborhoods,” Mr McDonald said.
Member for Callide, Bryson Head said delivering $40,000 in CCTV upgrades across Jandowae and Miles was helping improve to restore safety where you live.
“These CCTV upgrades in Western Downs are about strengthening the safety in our towns and supporting local police to keep our communities safe,” Mr Head said.
Member for Mundingburra, Janelle Poole said the $750,000 upgrade to the public amenities at Riverside Green and Aplins Weir Rotary Parks was giving families modern and accessible facilities they can enjoy for years to come.
“This investment for our local parks will deliver clean, safe and welcoming amenities so residents and visitors can make the most of our beautiful local green space,” Ms Poole said.
