Queensland Chief Entrepreneur to address Toowoomba creative summit

Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur, Julia Spicer, will be the keynote speaker at the Toowoomba Creative Industry Summit at the Empire Theatre on 21 April.

The Chief Entrepreneur is the flag-bearer for innovation and entrepreneurship in Queensland. From helping founders take their first steps to get their business off the ground, to working with government and industry to identify valuable problems that can be solved with innovation, to connecting talent to companies and creating a supportive environment.

Ms Spicer (pictured) was appointed as Queensland’s fifth Chief Entrepreneur in December last year. She works with regional communities across the country on a range of projects, with the focus on identifying needs in business and implementing creative solutions to address them.

She is also the founder of three regional businesses based at Goondiwindi.

Ms Spicer’s address to the Toowoomba Creative Industry Summit will draw on her wealth of experience working with businesses.

The one-day summit will focus on the intersection between art, culture, technology and entrepreneurship and how aspects of the various sectors connect and improve the Region’s lifestyle characteristics.

Speakers will cover some of the key goals identified in Toowoomba Regional Council’s coming Cultural Strategy.

Panel discussions will draw on the expertise of creatives across many disciplines including: Tim Panitz, digital and tech from The Empire Theatres; Charlie Hocroft, animation artist; Stephanie Piper, creative technologist; Ben Tupas, digital media producer and artist; Ruth Atkinson, Visual Focus managing director; Tilly Mykat marketing expert from Oh Tilly; Ben Yong, Wulfe Marketing director and Brendan Goleby and Nury Barros from Toowoomba.com.au

Attendees will also hear from Rebecca Statton, The Toowoomba Gallery; Lorraine White, Whitelane Textiles; Alicia Vohland, Windy Acres; Metiisto chocolatier Trevor Smith and Shannon Bauwens, who is a Bunya Mountains Ranger coordinator and cultural heritage practitioner.

Coupled with the summit, workshops showcasing the Region’s creative mediums will be open to the public on Saturday, 22 April at various locations across the Toowoomba region.
