The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works will hold a public hearing next Monday, 13 September, to scrutinise a proposal from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) to construct a $59.8 million purpose-built intermediate level solid radioactive waste storage facility at its Lucas Heights campus.
“At the hearing the Committee will examine the proposed works, with regards to its statutory role under the Public Works Committee Act 1969,” said Mr Rick Wilson MP, Committee Chair.
“Our scrutiny will consider the need and purpose of the works, cost effectiveness, any revenue it may produce, and the current and expected public value derived from the works.”
Given the high level of public interest in the proposal, the Committee will hear from ANSTO, as well as several stakeholders who have made submissions to the inquiry.
