Port Phillip cuts new grass deal

Victoria’s City of Port Phillip Council has taken over responsibility for maintaining the grass median strips on main roads in Port Phillip under a new agreement with VicRoads.

“Last year we received feedback from residents regarding overgrown grass on median strips owned by the Department of Transport and Planning,” the Council said in a statement today.

“Council worked with the Department to address the level of service for the assets. The VicRoads assets will now be maintained by our parks maintenance contractor in a move that will provide much-improved service and amenity for our community.”

The new agreement with VicRoads will see Council maintain median strips on main roads such as Brighton Road, Beaconsfield Parade, Fitzroy Street, Bay Street and Williamstown Road.

Council receives funding from VicRoads to undertake parks maintenance, tree maintenance and street sweeping on specific land owned by VicRoads, such as median strips.
