A wide range of career options and pathways in primary industries will be featured in a 10-part MyFutures video series being launched at the Perth Careers Expo from 16-19 May.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has produced the range of career spotlight videos to encourage students to consider roles in primary industries, which will be played at the department’s display at the expo.
DPIRD workforce capability manager, Brad Armstrong said each video provided information on study and training options, what a typical day on the job looks like, future demand, working conditions and some personal stories and advice from people in the industry.
“The series also aims to highlight the diverse opportunities and rewarding nature of careers in the primary industries sector and the increasing focus on sustainability and technological innovation,” Mr Armstrong said.
“We decided to highlight careers based on emerging trends and skills shortage data which include aquaculture and fisheries scientists, Aboriginal Economic Development project officers, Invasive Species biosecurity officers, agriculture lab and field technicians, food technologists and veterinarians.
“These will be showcased at the Perth Careers Expo which brings together more than 120 organisations.”
Mr Armstrong said after their launch at the Careers Expo, the videos would be available on the DPIRD and MyFuture websites.
“We want students and their parents to further explore career information on the MyFuture website, other career platforms, and the department’s primary industries careers page.”
Mr Armstrong said the DPIRD display would also feature career information booklets and a team of knowledgeable staff to assist with questions and facilitate connections to additional career resources.
“This event is for students, graduates and job seekers and is perfect for anyone pondering their future, seeking personal development and training opportunities,” he said.
“For parents, the expo offers an insight into their child’s career interests and can start conversations to participate and guide in the career planning process.”
Entry to the Perth Careers Expo being held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) between Thursday 16 May and Sunday 19 May is free.
