Modular community centre takes shape at Peakhurst Park

A new modular community centre is on its way to Georges River Council’s Peakhurst Park, in what is the Council’s first modular building project.

Modstruct Group was commissioned by Council to build the centre at its factory in Smeaton Grange. The eight modular pieces will be trucked into Peakhurst Park one by one before then being assembled. The project is expected to finish by April 2026, weather permitting.

The new centre will be a multi-purpose hub where local community groups can meet, run activities, and share the space.

Mayor, Elise Borg recently visited Modstruct Group in Smeaton Grange, with Council General Manager David Tuxford and the project team, to inspect the final phase of construction.

“This modular design, build and off-site construction is a milestone for our area, the first of its kind for Council, and it demonstrates how modern design can deliver real benefits to our residents,” she said.

“When the doors open, it will be a space that belongs to all of us, available for booking by anyone looking to run programs, meet, or connect.”

The centre was made possible with a $1 million Federal Government grant obtained by the Nepalese community, as well as $100,000 of NSW Government grant funding. Council also contributed $1.3 million to support the centre’s development.
