NSW councils accelerate digital transformation with OneCouncil

NSW councils are rapidly modernising their operations as adoption of TechnologyOne’s OneCouncil SaaS solution accelerates across the state, with Sutherland Shire Council and City of Newcastle among the latest to realise major transformation milestones.

The adoption marks a major step in Newcastle’s long-term transformation strategy, replacing fragmented legacy systems with OneCouncil – a unified platform built for accuracy, automation and better service delivery.

Meanwhile, Sutherland Shire Council, one of NSW’s largest and most active metropolitan councils, continues to advance its transformation with OneCouncil – improving operational performance, strengthening governance and reducing the cost and risk associated with maintaining ageing, on premise systems.

Across NSW, councils adopting OneCouncil are realising measurable benefits, including:

  • Lower total cost of ownership by consolidating dozens of legacy systems
  • Improved productivity through automation and a unified platform
  • Greater service reliability with TechnologyOne’s secure, locally run SaaS platform
  • Modern digital services for residents via DxP LG
  • Better decision-making through a single source of truth.

TechnologyOne’s SaaS+ model is proving especially valuable for councils under financial and resource pressure. With one annual fee covering implementation, operation and ongoing support, councils avoid project blowouts and achieve a faster, more predictable pathway to transformation.

Executive Vice President for Local Government at TechnologyOne, Ben Malpass said the latest NSW milestones demonstrate the sector’s growing urgency to modernise.

“Councils across New South Wales are under pressure to do more with less – delivering reliable services while managing ageing infrastructure, rising community expectations and tightening budgets,” said Mr Malpass.

“That’s why we’re seeing strong momentum behind OneCouncil. Newcastle’s recent CiA go-live and Sutherland’s continued progress show what’s possible when councils commit to modern, integrated systems designed specifically for local government.

“These are big, forward-thinking organisations setting themselves up for long-term success.”

With most metropolitan and regional councils in NSW now planning or progressing transformation with TechnologyOne, the state is fast becoming a national leader in digital modernisation for local government.
