New Peakhurst Park Community Centre opened

Georges River Council has officially opened the Peakhurst Park Community Centre, a new modular-built, multi-purpose space where community members can come together to learn, celebrate and connect.

The new community facility includes a community hall, kitchen, amenities and office spaces, all available for hire by the public.

The Council says the project was shaped by community input, including support from the Nepalese Australian Association (NAA).

Through Council’s lease and licence process, the NAA will become the new tenant and has shared their vision for the centre as a vibrant cultural hub, offering programs that promote education, strengthen cultural identity and foster community connection, Council said in a statement.

Built using a smart modular construction method, the centre was manufactured off‑site in eight sections before being assembled at Peakhurst Park. This approach delivered a more efficient, sustainable and contemporary build, Council says.

The project was funded through a $1 million Federal Government grant secured by the NAA and $100,000 from the State Government. Council also contributed $1.3 million to support the centre’s development.

Mayor, Elise Borg (pictured, above right) said the centre was the result of strong community advocacy and collaboration.

“It reflects the diversity of our area and offers residents a warm place to connect, celebrate, and grow together,” she said.

Member for Banks, Zhi Soon (pictured, above centre) said he was pleased to see the Peakhurst Park Community Centre come into fruition.

“It is a great example of Federal, State and Local Governments working alongside communities to deliver important local infrastructure,” he said.

“While open to the whole community, I know the Nepalese Australian community has been working tirelessly to make the Community Centre a reality, creating a space where they can celebrate their culture and heritage with all, alongside providing important support to their community.”

The Peakhurst Park Community Centre forms part of Council’s broader vision for the Peakhurst Park precinct. Future improvements will deliver upgraded open spaces, better accessibility and additional parking.
