Kiama Municipal Councillor, Mike Cains, has tendered his resignation from the organisation, effective immediately.
In a statement, the Council thanked Councillor Cains (pictured) for his service to the community.
The Council said Councillor Cains had informed Mayor, Cameron McDonald, of his decision to resign for personal reasons.
A by-election will be held to replace the vacancy that has been created by Cr Cains’ resignation.
Cr Cains has lived in the Kiama local government area since 2008 and was elected to Council in 2024 as an independent representative.
“We accept his resignation and thank him for his time and effort,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Cr Cains has stood up for what he believes in, been a passionate advocate for the rejuvenation of Kiama Harbour and the local agricultural industry.
“His resignation will be ratified at our Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday night.”
