New lights brighten the way at Traralgon

New lighting at Agnes Brereton Reserve and Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve has been officially launched by Eastern Victoria MLC, Harriet Shing.

The new street lighting was a joint project of Latrobe City Council and the Victorian State Government.

Council received $151,232 from the Public Safety Infrastructure Fund administered by the State Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program to install the lights to increase safety in the area.

Council installed 10 lights along the pathways at Agnes Brereton Reserve and four lights at the Railway Reserve to improve safety.

“People can now see further into the distance and feel safer while they are using these reserves, which are assets for the communities of Traralgon and Latrobe City,” Latrobe City Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Darren Howe said.

“With people now feeling safer when using these reserves during the dark, they now have more opportunities for exercising with family and friends, and even for events such as weddings.”

The Public Safety Infrastructure Fund provides grants of up to $250,000 to Victorian councils for enhancements to public places to improve community safety and security, and help deter crime.
