Georges River Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposed pedestrian lighting design at Olds Park in Penshurst.
Olds Park is a well-loved recreation hub that includes sporting fields, a skatepark, Penshurst Branch Library, and a network of shared pedestrian and cycle paths. The proposed upgrade aims to improve safety and visibility along the existing shared path network after dark. The pedestrian pathway will also be upgraded as part of the project.
The draft lighting design includes the installation of new energy-efficient LED lighting, powered by mains electricity. This will replace the existing combination of older mains-powered and solar lighting, which creates uneven lighting across the park. Areas of the path previously without lighting, particularly in the northern and north-western sections, will also be addressed as part of the upgrade.
Council is seeking feedback on the draft lighting design, personal experiences of using Olds Park at night, and any suggestions for the upgrade.
“Olds Park is an important part of our community, and ensuring it remains safe and accessible after dark is a key priority,” Mayor, Elise Borg said.
“I encourage residents, park users and local groups to take part in the consultation and have their say on the proposed pedestrian lighting design.”
The public review period runs until Friday 4 July. During this time, the design can be viewed on the project page or at Georges River Council Customer Experience Centres and Libraries.
