New director for Griffith council

Griffith City Council has announced the appointment of Joe Rizzo as Director of Sustainable Development, effective Monday, 12 August.

Mr Rizzo (pictured) began his career at Griffith City Council in October 2003 as an Assistant Engineer, and then as a Development Engineer in August 2006. He was appointed Engineering Design and Approvals Manager in November 2014, working closely with the Sustainable Development Team.

In his new role, Mr Rizzo will oversee critical Council functions, including DA Assessment, Property Management, Strategic Planning, Building Assessment, Infrastructure Planning, Urban Design, Heritage, Transport Planning, Recreation Planning, Environment and Public Health Services, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Services, and the statutory role of Airport Manager.

Mr Rizzo said he was excited by both the challenges and opportunities the position offers.

“Having a passion for local government and the Griffith community, I’m looking forward to helping our community grow,” Mr Rizzo said.

General Manager, Brett Stonestreet said Mr Rizzo’s experience and commitment to Griffith positioned him well to lead the Sustainable Development Team.

“Griffith is a growing regional centre, and our Sustainable Development Team does an amazing job facilitating that growth with limited resources. Under Joe’s leadership, I have no doubt that the team will continue to achieve great outcomes in partnership with other Directorates,” Mr Stonestreet said.

“I’d like to thank Carel Potgieter for serving as Acting Director of Sustainable Development during the recruitment phase.”
