New CEO for Alice Springs Town Council

Alice Springs Town Council has announced the appointment of Peter Varris as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Varris brings more than 30 years of local government leadership experience, having served communities across Western Australia in a range of senior executive roles spanning corporate services, infrastructure, community services, governance and executive management.

He will depart WA’s City of Vincent Council to take up the new role in Alice Springs.

Mayor, Asta Hill said Council was delighted to welcome Mr Varris to the organisation.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Peter to the Alice Springs Town Council team. Peter joins us at an exciting time, with a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects ahead,” she said.

“His extensive experience will be invaluable as we continue delivering high-quality facilities and services for our residents, and I look forward to working with him to achieve positive outcomes for our town.”

Mr Varris said he was looking forward to joining Alice Springs Town Council.

“I am pleased to be joining Alice Springs Town Council as Chief Executive Officer, and I look forward to working alongside the Mayor, Councillors, staff and the wider community,” he said.

“I am ready to take on challenges and opportunities ahead, and am eager to work collaboratively with the team to support Council’s long-term vision for Alice Springs.”

Mayor Hill also acknowledged Nicole Battle, who has been Acting CEO in recent months.

“Nicole’s professionalism, calm leadership, sound judgement and commitment to our organisation have been vital in guiding Council through this transition. I express my thanks to Nicole for her work,” she said.
