New accessible amenities open at South Lawson Park

Blue Mountains City Council has marked the completion of the current stage of improvements at South Lawson Park, with the official opening of a new accessible toilet block.

The new amenities facility includes four universally designed cubicles, accessible parking, improved pathway connections and landscaping works, helping ensure the park is welcoming and usable for everyone.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Mark Greenhill said the project responds to increased community use of the park.

“South Lawson Park has become a much-loved destination for families, sporting groups and visitors,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“These new amenities ensure people can stay longer and enjoy the park in comfort, with facilities designed to be accessible and inclusive for all.”

The South Lawson Park Toilet Block project is co-funded by a $1,685,300 grant from the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.

“This much needed upgrade for South Lawson Park is a clear example of the NSW Government and Blue Mountains City Council working together to deliver practical, inclusive community infrastructure,” said Trish Doyle MP, Member for the Blue Mountains.”

“These new accessible facilities will make a real difference for families, visitors, and people with mobility issues, ensuring everyone can enjoy this beautiful open space comfortably and with dignity.

“I also acknowledge the strong design focus on accessibility, safety and sustainability, which reflects the needs of our growing community and the unique character of the Blue Mountains,” said Mayor Greenhill.

The opening was marked with a small community event where park users were able to view the facilities and talk to the project team. The event also featured a short talk from Gundungurra Elder Uncle David King.

The project forms part of Council’s broader transformation of the former golf course into a district-level park, with recent upgrades including pathways, nature play and recreational spaces.
