Moyne Shire wins $205k for Tiny Towns upgrades

Moyne Shire Council has won more than $205,000 in funding for six community projects spanning open space improvements, playground safety, hall refurbishments and community centre upgrades.

Mayor, Jordan Lockett said the State Government funding announcement was incredibly exciting for the communities of Koroit, Mortlake, Port Fairy, Cudgee, Yambuk and Framlingham.

“Koroit’s open space beautification project will create a community vibe at the Channing Street reserve with a gazebo, picnic tables, trees and garden beds, while on the corner of High Street and McVicar Street there will be planting and public art to enliven the town entrance,” Mayor Lockett said.

“Creating more accessible open spaces for our community to gather is an epic outcome and will promote social connection, recreation, and wellbeing for our residents, he said.

The Mayor also highlighted the two projects in Mortlake and Port Fairy which had been submitted as a direct result of community lobbying and need.

“Fencing to keep our playground users, especially our kids, safe is the focus of the Mortlake project and was the priority project identified by the community as part of the Market Square Masterplan development,” he said.

“While upgrades to Port Fairy Community Service Centre will see the development of a great new play space for a new childcare room we are looking to add to the service again as a direct result of community need for an extra 35-day care places a week.”

Council has also been granted funding as part of Tiny Towns to investigate improvements and upgrades to the Yambuk rest area, which was acknowledged as part of the community consultation into Public Amenities undertaken last year.

Other projects within Moyne to be part of the funding distribution include hall refurbishments and upgrades for community hubs in Framlingham and Cudgee.

“Our tiny towns really are the heartbeat of our shire and to have their key projects funded is incredibly special,” Mayor Lockett said.
