Maitland City Council has secured close to $1 million to upgrade two major road intersections.
Funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, more than $610,000 will go towards a new roundabout at the intersection of Dragonfly Drive and Grasshawk Drive, Chisholm. Another $383,000 has been secured to install a raised safety platform at the intersection of McKeachie Drive and Oakhampton Road, Aberglasslyn to better manage traffic flow.
Mayor, Philip Penfold says both projects are aimed at keeping locals and visitors safe on local roads.
“I welcome this funding announcement from the Australian Government to help us upgrade two important intersections in our road network: one in Maitland’s east and one in the west,” Mayor Penfold said.
“As a Council, we’re committed to making meaningful improvements for Maitland so we can deliver our shared vision of a connected city with thriving communities.”
Both intersections have recorded multiple accidents in the last five years, and these upgrades will help reduce risks for motorists and residents.
Work on both projects is expected to begin during the 2026 Christmas holidays.
