Macedon Ranges connects to Seniors program

Victoria’s Macedon Ranges Shire Council has been awarded $330,000 from the Australian Government’s Seniors Connected Program to fund a Village Hub.

The Macedon Ranges Village Hub project will focus on bringing older people together online and in their community for activities that support good mental and physical health and enable better connections to the local community.

The project will run from 2021 to 2024. During this time, a range of initiatives will be implemented to alleviate loneliness and social isolation experienced by older people in the Macedon Ranges community.

The views of older residents will be integral to the design of the project and decisions about activities and programs to be offered, said Mayor, Jennifer Anderson, who welcomed the funding announcement.

“We are delighted to be one of 10 successful applicants across Australia to receive this grant,” she said.

“This funding will allow us to work in partnership with older people and local organisations to deliver a greater number of services and programs for our senior community members, improving wellbeing and reducing feelings of isolation.”

The Village Hubs Grants program is an initiative of the Australian Government’s Seniors Connected Program and is administered by Independent Living Assessment (ILA).
