International delegates have visited some of City of Logan’s key social enterprises today as part of a forum being held this week in Brisbane.
Logan Mayor, Darren Power said the city was honoured to be part of the Social Enterprise World Forum as an exhibition and tour partner.
Up to 50 people, including a number from Canada’s Buy Social, Scotland’s Highlands & Islands Enterprise and delegates from England, took part in today’s Logan Bus Tour Fringe Event.
The delegates travelled around the city for a first-hand look at Substation33, yourtown, The Centre for Women & Co. and Spirits of the Red Sand.
Mayor Power said social enterprises played an important role in the City of Logan with many providing residents with employment, opportunities and a new start.
“We are proud of the work our social enterprises are doing and excited to be sharing that with forum representatives, especially those from overseas,” he said.
“We want to give them an insight into how these important social enterprises function and highlight their success stories.”
The Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) Australia has attracted about 2,000 people with a further 6,000 participants expected to take part online.
It brings together social enterprise practitioners, policymakers, corporate and public sector supporters, academics and social investors.
SEWF 2022, which runs until Friday, will highlight themes including Indigenous social enterprises and climate solutions.
City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said the forum would help further develop the ‘business-for-good’ movement.
“We want to highlight the wonderful work our local organisations do and this forum offers us a fantastic platform to do that,” Cr Koranski said.
“Logan City Council will have a presence at the forum throughout the week and we look forward to networking with many of the delegates and organisers.”
Council will host an exhibition stand at the forum at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Students from a number of City of Logan schools will also attend tomorrow’s Australian Youth Forum.
“I know many of them are looking forward to spending time with their peers and like-minded individuals while taking part in thought-provoking discussions on issues such as climate action, mental health and youth-led ideas,” Cr Koranski said.
