LNP Lord Mayor returned in Brisbane

Adrian Schrinner has been returned as Lord Mayor of Brisbane, with the LNP looking set to retain the majority of seats within the City of Brisbane Council chamber.

Mr Schrinner declared victory on Saturday night, saying in a statement that he was humbled by the result.

“While we expect to retain a majority in council, unfortunately many wards remain either too close to call or not enough votes have been counted,” he said.

“Like me, I am sure many residents are disappointed at the slow count as well as the long queues and shortage of staff and ballot papers that occurred at many booths.”

As of Saturday night, Lord Mayor Schrinner held around 47% of first preference votes.

The Council is Queensland’s largest, with 26 wards and 845,501 enrolled voters.
