Residents of Lismore and Nimbin have been asked to conserve water and reduce their use of sewage systems as flooding affects local water supply and sewage systems.
In a statement, Lismore Council said the current flooding in Lismore and Nimbin, and associated power outages, had adversely affected water supply and sewage systems.
“Residents are asked to conserve water as much as possible as we are currently unable to replenish water reservoirs,” Council said.
It said Nimbin had approximately 24hours of water supply left based on normal usage rates.
“Nimbin Residents are asked to conserve water.”
“Similarly, our sewage treatment plants at South Lismore and East Lismore are not fully operational and have been severely affected by the current events.
“The East Lismore STP is completely inundated and repairs cannot be undertaken until floodwaters recede. The South Lismore STP is not receiving sewage as power outages mean that sewer pump stations are not operating.
“The patience and cooperation of residents is appreciated as we work through these challenges,” Council said.
