Brisbane City Markets are getting a major expansion, with up to 80 vendors, Friday night markets and new family-friendly experiences set to transform the heart of the CBD, Brisbane City Council has announced.
The popular weekly markets, operated by Goodwill Projects, currently feature around 60 vendors each Wednesday and will expand to up to 80 stalls over the next year.
The expanded markets will also introduce:
- cooking demonstrations
- cultural flavour months
- guided tours
- public play areas with giant games and board game tables
Brisbane City Markets will also launch Friday night markets, with the first to be held on 25 September. The Council says at least two evening market events are planned this year, with four scheduled in 2027, encouraging more people into the CBD after dark.
After expanding into Queen Street Mall in 2024, the Council says the next chapter of the City Markets will build on strong foot traffic during the weekly Wednesday market and bring even more people to the city centre.
In 2026, more than 39 million movements were recorded across the Queen Street Mall. This peaked in April where the Mall saw an average of 226,000 movements and more than 284,000 movements on Friday 17 April alone – the final Friday of the school holidays.
The expansion comes as Queen Street Mall undergoes its biggest transformation in decades, with the major renewal of Uptown, Griffith University’s transformation of the Treasury Building, Cross River Rail and significant private investment reshaping Brisbane’s CBD.
Goodwill Projects has operated Brisbane City Markets since 2019 and will continue to operate them for at least the next three years.

“The expansion of a signature night market offering compliments the top of Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall and provides a unique offering for couples, families and visitors alike to explore the city – particularly as we build momentum toward the 2032 Brisbane Games.”
Residents can visit Brisbane City Markets every Wednesday from 8am to 5pm in Reddacliff Place at the top of Queen Street Mall. The first Friday night market will be held from 4pm to 9pm on Friday 25 September.
