Councils from across NSW have been recognised for excellence in strategic planning, arts and culture, community events and communications at the 2026 Local Government Week Awards.
Local Government NSW (LGNSW) President and Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne said the winners exemplified the innovation, leadership and community focus that continues to define the sector.
“These councils are setting the standard across NSW. They’re constantly finding new ways to serve their communities,” President Byrne said.
“Behind every winning project are council staff and elected representatives working to make their communities stronger, more vibrant, connected and resilient.
“Local Government Week celebrates a sector that delivers every day. These councils show what’s possible when local leadership is backed by vision, creativity and a commitment to community.”
The annual awards recognise council excellence, highlighting projects, initiatives and campaigns that make a lasting difference to communities.
Narrabri Shire Council picked up two awards – a Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award and an RH Dougherty Events and Communications Award.
Burwood Council also won two awards – a Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award and NSW Youth Week Award.
Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award recipients were also presented to Wollongong City Council and Hawkesbury City Council.
Walgett Shire Council, Port Macquarie-Hastings and Shoalhaven City Council all received LGNSW Planning Awards.
Other winners included Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Tweed Shire Council, City of Newcastle and Rous County Council, Hilltops Council, Waverley Council, The Hills Shire Council, Lismore City Council and Camden Council which all received RH Dougherty Events and Communications Awards, as did Sarah Corry from Lane Cove Council, who received the award for Outstanding Individual Contribution.
Other Youth Week Award winners included Fairfield City Council and Forbes Shore Council.
