The Local Government Association of South Australia is inviting Council staff and elected members to contribute ideas for key research topics and priorities to inform areas of focus for the Local Government Research and Development Scheme.
“This is an opportunity for all councils to have a direct influence on priorities in the next round of funding, with up to $2 million available annually for projects that address shared challenges and drive innovation in local government,” the Association said in a statement.
“Research priorities guide project funding, ensuring each initiative aligns with the evolving needs of councils and communities across the state.”
Research priorities are set through:
- feedback directly from councils
- sector trends and matters raised at LGA general meetings
- alignment with LGA’s Strategic Plan and Annual Business Plans.
Research priorities identified for the current year have focused on key areas that promote sustainability, community resilience, and operational excellence:
- Climate and environment
- Community wellbeing and inclusion
- Planning and infrastructure
- Financial sustainability
- Building sector capacity.
Applications to the next round of funding will open in mid-2025.
Council staff and elected members are encouraged to suggest topics or areas of research which could benefit communities and support local government objectives.
To contribute, email your suggestions to lgrds@lga.sa.gov.au by Thursday 14 November.
The Local Government Research and Development Scheme Advisory Committee will review all feedback in December.
