City of Launceston Council is seeking public input to help develop a new Recreation and Open Space Strategy for the municipality.
Mayor, Matthew Garwood said the Council was eager to recognise the importance of recreational open spaces in its strategic future planning, and wanted to understand how the community viewed the municipality’s parks, reserves, playgrounds and trails.
“As part of this work, we are launching a new online survey to inform how we go about developing a new Recreation and Open Space Strategy,” Mayor Garwood said.
“The survey will let people share their thoughts on various ideas, opportunities and challenges for Launceston’s open spaces.
“It will help us understand which open spaces are most valued by residents and why, and which open spaces could be improved and how.
“That feedback will play a pivotal role in helping us better understand our community’s needs.
“It will also help our Council make informed future decisions when it comes to the management of these areas.”
Mayor Garwood said the Recreation and Open Space Strategy would become the primary strategic document guiding how the Council provided and protected recreation and public open space for the benefit of the entire community.
“Public open space can be any piece of land that is used by the community for any recreational purpose,” Mayor Garwood said.
“It could be a large reserve, or a small patch alongside a trail, a place you exercise your dog, or a place you take your family for a picnic.
“We want to understand the variety of ways in which our open spaces are being used, and people’s ideas for improvements we could make in the future.”
Launceston residents who complete the survey will go in the draw for a range of prizes, including 10 family passes for the City of Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre, along with passes to Festivale.
