Kiama Council has announced it will update its Draft Growth and Housing Strategy, following an independent review as well as feedback received from individuals, organisations and NSW Government agencies.
Council has released a Discussion Paper which summarises the background, process to prepare the Draft Strategy, current status and recommendations regarding next steps.
The Draft Growth and Housing Strategy was prepared to clearly articulate where, how and why growth will occur within the municipality, and the need to carefully and appropriately manage this growth, Council said in a statement.
The Strategy was endorsed by Council in July, before being placed on public exhibition, attracting more than 370 written submissions. The feedback was summarised into a Public Exhibition Engagement Report.
Strategic planning specialists Miller Street Consulting has also peer reviewed the Draft Strategy, making 23 recommendations in four key areas:
- Current policy and legislative frameworks
- Readability and clarity of the structure of the Draft Strategy
- Relevance and robustness of the Draft Strategy’s capacity analysis
- The actions and implementation plan included in the Draft Strategy
As a result of the significant number of public submissions and the extensive recommendations of the independent review, Council will now update the Draft Growth and Housing Strategy, it said.
The update will include a review of all Landowner Expression of Interests.
The updated Draft Strategy will then be reported back to Council and placed on public exhibition in early 2025 for further community and stakeholder feedback.
The finalised Strategy is expected to be presented to Council mid-2025.
