Sydney’s Inner West Council has secured funding for a record 136 public electric vehicle charging stations to be rolled out across the local government area.
Mayor, Darcy Byrne says the charging station rollout is the largest of any LGA in NSW.
“Our community will be the epicentre of the largest expansion in EV charging ever seen in Australia,” said Mayor Byrne.
“This public / private partnership will be funded by NSW Government grants, secured because of the quality of our proposal and plans.
“This is another huge step forward in making the Inner West the most sustainable municipality in Australia,” he said.
The new chargers – will be installed on kerbsides and in public council car parks – will range from seven kilowatts to 75 kilowatts and will include pole-mounted, pedestal and ‘kiosk’ EV chargers.
All will be installed over the next 12 months and will be open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are designed for drivers without offsite parking, such as those in apartments.
“This is the culmination of our years of work and advocacy on our EV strategy and will make the Inner West the easiest place in the nation to use an electric vehicle,” said Mayor Byrne.
