Infrastructure to be fast-tracked for Bundaberg housing boost

A further 1,400 new homes are set to be unlocked along Bundaberg’s coastline with the construction of three critical infrastructure projects to be fast-tracked by the Queensland Government.

The Government has today announced funding of $23.2 million under the Residential Activation Fund (RAF) will support construction of three projects along the Coral Coast which will unlock 1,436 new homes.

The RAF will fully-fund $22.2 million worth of trunk infrastructure required to unlock the Coral Cove Ocean Estate housing project. It will also deliver a $691,459 boost towards a sewer rising main upgrade on Poinciana Drive in Innes Park and a $332,766 boost towards the Poinciana Drive and Back Windemere Rd intersection upgrade.

“This $23.2million investment along the Coral Coast will give more Queenslanders a place to call home after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government,” Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie.

Minister for Housing and Public Works, Sam O’Connor said the Government was listening to regional communities after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.

“After 10 years of decline under Labor, regional communities like Bundaberg are finally seeing the investment needed to deliver the homes they deserve,” Minister O’Connor said.

“In just 10 months, the Crisafulli Government is backing projects that unlock land and fast-track new housing – part of our plan to deliver one million homes by 2044, with half of the Residential Activation Fund dedicated to the regions.”

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Helen Blackburn said the funding announcement would support outcomes identified in Council’s Bundaberg Local Housing Action Plan.

“The Bundaberg Region is facing a range of immediate, emerging and long-term housing challenges that we cannot tackle alone,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“Securing funding under the Queensland Government’s Residential Activation Fund means the Bundaberg Region will see fast-tracked delivery of critical infrastructure for essential services which support housing growth.

“Advocacy for catalytic infrastructure funding is one of the key actions within the Bundaberg Local Housing Action Plan and we’re delighted to see further investment in our region from the Queensland Government.

“This support is vital to addressing housing challenges in our community while supporting local jobs and economic development.”
