Cairns Regional Council will fast-track 14 projects worth more than $5.6 million as part of a Commonwealth Government funding program designed to stimulate additional infrastructure construction.
The projects include a $1.5 million upgrade to upgrade intersections at Rabaul and Periwinkle streets in Trinity Beach, more than $1.36 million of improvements to Tanks 3, 4 and 5 at the Tanks Art Centre, and construction of the Givens St pedestrian bridge over the Dillon St drain in Westcourt ($350,000).
Council received $5,606,619 in grant funding under Phase 2 of the Commonwealth Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant (LRCI) program for the following projects:
- Bramston Beach Campground seepage trench upgrade: $50,000
- Woree Pool heat pump conversion (gas to electricity): $400,000
- Carnation Dr footpath (Stage 2), Lavender St to Beatrice St crossing: $80,000
- Givens Street Pedestrian Bridge over Dillon Street drain: $350,000
- Scott St centre parking: $211,000
- ANZAC Park lighting upgrade: $370,000
- McCoombe St pedestrian bridge detour footpath (link to southern cycleway): $200,000
- Spence St – civic reception rooms renewal: $380,000
- Harley St drainage: $350,000
- Griffith Park Stage 1b stormwater renewal: $150,000
- Tank 3 storage, catering, toilets and Tank 4 storage: $800,000
- Tank 5 PA and sound equipment renewal: $565,000
- Collins Ave footpaths, trees and landscaping: $200,000
- Intersection upgrades – Rabaul and Periwinkle streets, Trinity Beach: $1.5 million
