Police conducted a joint high-visibility operation in the Hobart waterfront and Salamanca areas on Saturday night, aimed at detecting and deterring anti-social behaviours.
Officers from Hobart Uniform, Operation Saturate, Metro and Licencing units joined with City of Hobart Council members, security officers and the Liquor and Gaming Board to conduct the high visibility joint operation.
“The operation was focused on detecting and deterring anti-social behaviours, and licencing and alcohol offences, to promote public safety,” said Acting Inspector Danny Jackson.
“During the evening, more than a dozen licenced premises were visited with three licencing infringements issued.
“Police attended several disturbances with more than fifteen move-on directions issued.”
During the operation:
- Police arrested a 27-year-old Hobart woman and a 29-year-old Hobart man in relation to outstanding arrest warrants. Police also charged them with several counts of stealing.
- Shortly before midnight, police responded to reports of an incident at Salamanca Square where a teenager had made threats to a member of the public. Police arrested the teenager allegedly involved and charged them with multiple offences including 7x stealing, 8x trespass, 3x destroy property and breaching court conditions.
- At around 4.25am, police responded to reports of a disturbance on the waterfront, where a teenager had produced scissors. A man had reportedly sustained a minor injury but had left the area prior to police arrival. Police located the teenager allegedly involved, and allegedly located scissors in their possession. The teenager was arrested and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
“Police remain committed to public safety, and ensuring every member of our community can be safe at home, at work, and in public spaces.”
“We will continue to target those people who choose to do the wrong thing in our community,” said A/Insp Jackson.
