Work has begun on the City of Logan Council’s newest slice of outdoor paradise, with the Waterford West District Park set to become a dynamic recreational hub for the local community.
The six-hectare site, on Chambers Flat Road, will be one of the largest parks delivered in the Council’s history.
Council is contributing $15.17 million towards the project, which is expected to be complete in the second half of 2026.
It is also being supported by $11.94 million in funding from the Australian and Queensland Governments under the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund, a commitment of the SEQ City Deal.
Mayor, Jon Raven said the multimillion-dollar project was an investment in the city’s future.
“Logan is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia but keeping up with that growth is not just about delivering homes, services and roads,” Mayor Raven said.
“With our welcoming multicultural community, great natural spaces and amazing food and entertainment options, it’s no wonder why so many people are choosing to call the City of Logan home.
“People love parks and they’re a huge part of what sets our city apart from our neighbours in South East Queensland.”
Division 5 Councillor, Paul Jackson said the new park would serve the local community for generations to come.
“We can’t wait for local families to have a new place to play, connect, and make memories that will last a lifetime,” Cr Jackson said.
“This project is about turning six hectares of space into something special that our community can truly call its own.”
The park will feature a free, family-friendly water play zone, complete with water jets and splash pads.
A shaded adventure playground will provide children of all ages with engaging structures designed to encourage both physical activity and imaginative play.
Barbecue facilities, sheltered seating and spacious picnic areas will provide exciting new options for social gatherings and large-scale community events.
Nature lovers will also be able to explore thoughtfully designed walking trails that will highlight the area’s breathtaking natural landscape, home to protected swamp tea-trees (Melaleuca Irbyana).
New car parking and an amenities block will also make park play easier and more convenient for everyone.
Additional features for the park will be explored as works continue, the Council confirmed in a statement.
Waterford West District Park is located between Marsden State High School and Marsden State School, making it an accessible destination for students and families.
