Local riders shape City of Moreton Bay’s first dirt track

City of Moreton Bay’s first official dirt jump has opened to riders at Dayboro, with many playing a role in the new track’s’ design and construction.

Following a design workshop in October last year, a group of riders joined experts from Trailworx for a weekend track-building workshop in July to bring their shared vision to life.

The $130,000 Dayboro Dirt Jump is at Bill Rowe Park (McKenzie Street).

Mayor, Peter Flannery said it is commonplace within the dirt jump community for riders to be actively involved in maintaining jumps and, in this case, locals have learned important skills from professional track builders.

“They’ve had a hand in creating safe tracks that cater to riders of all levels, and I know they will take pride in ensuring they continue to be well maintained. Our staff and industry experts will also monitor the tracks to ensure they remain safe,” he said.

“There’s a beginner-friendly ‘learn to jump’ line with return track, intermediate and advanced jump line, and a variety of features including rollers, tabletops, berms, transitions and step-ups. We’ve also provided sandstone block seating at the staging area, and a water bubbler for riders and spectators.

“Dirt jump tracks are a great way to get active and enjoy being outdoors. We know when tracks are built without technical guidance or approval, they can create safety risks, disturb local wildlife, and impact nearby residents. That’s why we’ve worked with riders and the experts to create a first for our City.

“The Dayboro Dirt Jump harnesses the ideas and enthusiasm of local riders to create a unique project that could be replicated elsewhere in City of Moreton Bay.”

Councillor Ellie Smith (Division 11) said the project was the result of collaboration between young riders, their families and Council.

“What started with unauthorised and unsafe dirt jumps in a local creek inspired this trial project that will give riders a space to take real ownership over,” she said.

“Thank you to those residents and riders who engaged in community consultation on this project, worked on the design and have now helped us deliver it.

“This new facility provides plenty of options for riders to test their skills, get outdoors and have some fun in Dayboro.”
