Early learning centre on drawing board for Warrnambool

The Victorian Government has announced Warrnambool will get a new Early Learning Victoria centre, to be built on Deakin University’s campus.

Minister for Children, Lizzie Blandthorn said the centre, which will be a partnership between the Government, Deakin University, South West TAFE and Warrnambool City Council, will open in 2028

Minister Blandthorn said the new centre will train the region’s future early educators, supporting students in both the TAFE diploma and new Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

It will care for children from six weeks old to school age, offering long day care and three- and four-year-old kinder.

There will also be a dedicated space for child, family and community services.

“This centre puts students on campus learning alongside experienced educators,” said Ms Blandthorn.

“More local kids will get quality early education, with more time to learn through play before school.”
