Dungog council accepts $1.8m tender for Clarence Town Road works

Dungog Shire Council has accepted a tender from Downer EDI Pty Ltd for $1.83 million worth of works for priority upgrades to Segment 1 of Clarence Town Road, scheduled to commence next week.

Segment 1 – which lies 1.10km to 3.09km North of Woerdens Road – upgrades will include pavement widening and reconstruction, drainage works, resealing, line marking, and the construction of a safety guardrail for a 2km stretch along the route.

Mayor of Dungog, John Connors, said he is confident the project will bring multi-tiered benefits across the shire, including improved safety, and better access to and from the region.

“The $25 million Clarence Town Road – Raymond Terrace to Dungog upgrade will improve freight efficiency and road safety across the region, improve connectivity between people and jobs, and facilitate movement of goods to markets,” said Mayor Connors.

“These benefits and connections will, in turn, stimulate our local economy and promote the prosperity and social wellbeing of our whole community.

“The project to restore Clarence Town Road will rehabilitate a critical link between Dungog, Clarence Town, Raymond Terrace and the entire lower Hunter Region.”

Construction along the route commenced in November 2020 and the full road upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-2023, with works scheduled along Segment 1 to be carried out from September 2021 to February 2022.

The Clarence Town Road – Raymond Terrace to Dungog project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government committing $20 million, and the NSW Government funding $5 million.

The project will deliver upgrades to 22 sections of the road, improving road safety and access, and is being delivered by Dungog Shire Council and Port Stephens Council.

This upgrade is part of the Australian Government’s 10-year, $110 billion ‘Building Our Future’ nationwide infrastructure investment plan.
