Design work for the Gold Coast’s largest regional community centre is on track after the City Council confirmed an agreement had been signed with Scentre Group.
The $100 million Coomera Civic Hub will be built on land adjacent to Coomera Westfield owned by Scentre Group and QIC.
Gold Coast Acting Mayor, Donna Gates said the centre was a first of its kind for the Gold Coast and would be a one-stop-shop with integrated facilities under the one roof.
“It will include a state-of-the-art library, multipurpose community and civic spaces, auditorium, youth hub, customer service centre, councillor’s office and a co-working space for not-for-profits,” Acting Mayor Gates said.
“Locating it next to Westfield Coomera makes it convenient for our residents and is such a vast improvement on service delivery and customer experience for our northern Gold Coasters.”
Acting Mayor Gates said the northern Gold Coast had experienced rapid growth that was expected to reach almost 300,000 people by 2041.
Scentre Group Director of Development, Stewart White said the announcement was great news for the Coomera community.
“The future Coomera Civic Hub will be an integral part of the Coomera town centre and a vibrant destination for the northern Gold Coast,” Mr White said.
“For more than a decade, we’ve earmarked the precinct as important for accommodating future growth across the Gold Coast corridor and southeast Queensland.
“We’re looking forward to this next stage of the town centre coming to life to complement the retail, dining, entertainment, and services on offer at Westfield Coomera.
“Considered essential, social infrastructure, last year Westfield Coomera welcomed 6.3 million visitors.
“We’re excited by the opportunity to work with City of Gold Coast on the Coomera Civic Hub to expand the town centre precinct, creating a destination for locals, visitors, families and the community.”
Design work will commence in late 2022 with construction forecast to begin in mid-2024 subject to design finalisation and approvals.
