Mayors, Deputy Mayors and CEOs from six councils across Central Queensland gathered in Brisbane recently to advocate for better housing and jobs outcomes.
Central Highlands Mayor, Janice Moriarty said representatives from the Central Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (CQROC) met with the Premier, Opposition Leader, ministers, shadow ministers and key government officials to highlight the ongoing accommodation shortage and discuss the potential change in workforce demand.
“Regardless of who will be in power following the next state government election, it was important to have a collective local government voice and lobby for the incentives and innovative programs that will secure a prosperous future for Central Queensland and our individual council areas,” said Mayor Moriarty.
“Stepping forward now to advocate ahead of the Queensland Government elections shows we are serious about local and state government working together with industry, businesses and our communities to protect jobs, encourage investment in our regions and tackle the housing crisis.
“The CQROC trip was a valuable opportunity to keep the Central Queensland region and the Central Highlands top of mind with the state government, as well as build strong relationships with neighbouring councils,” she said.
