Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor, Allan Aughey OAM, has welcomed the South Australian Government’s Budget commitment of $90 million towards vital safety upgrades for the Horrocks Highway.
The Mayor said the Horrocks Highway is a critical transport corridor running from Gawler north through the Clare Valley and into the Mid North, serving as an essential artery for local commuters, major agricultural freight and the region’s thriving tourism industry.
Mayor Aughey said the funding delivered on a key pledge by the State Government and would address longstanding concerns about the road’s deteriorating condition and safety record.
“This significant $90 million investment is a highly anticipated and essential step forward in improving the safety and efficiency of the Horrocks Highway,” Mayor Aughey said.
“Council, alongside many of our residents and local businesses who travel this route daily, has advocated strongly for these much-needed upgrades.
“Seeing this funding secured in the State Budget ensures that our community, and those visiting our beautiful region, will benefit from a safer, more reliable road network.”
The planned works are expected to address known safety hazards, improve road surface quality and enhance overall connectivity for the Clare and Gilbert Valleys and the broader Mid North region.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with the State Government and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport to see these vital upgrades roll out seamlessly,” Mayor Aughey said.
