City of Yarra’s first-ever Community Vision has been formally adopted after a year-long community engagement process.
Yarra Mayor, Gabrielle de Vietri said the Community Vision mapped out the Yarra community’s hopes, aspirations and priorities for the next 15 years.
“This inspiring and pivotal document was shaped by a panel of 55 locals representing Yarra’s diverse cultures, suburbs and communities.”
“The community’s priorities in the vision will inform Yarra’s strategic planning, including the next four-year council plan and our long-term financial and asset plans,” Mayor de Vietri said.
The community panel process followed engagement with the wider community from November 2020 to January 2021.
The Community Vision includes a statement describing a future Yarra in 2036:
Yarra is a vibrant, safe and inclusive environment. We celebrate and embrace our diversity and connection to each other and the land. Our community is empowered to work together and support one another with respect and trust.
It’s also broken down into eight vision themes – representing key areas of focus, each with its own priorities for Yarra’s future.
Earlier in the year councillors committed to receiving the vision as the community panel provided it.
“We’re looking forward to working with our community to see their vision achieved,” Mayor de Vietri said.
