City of Whittlesea Council says young families in Donnybrook-Woodstock are set to benefit from a new $12.5 million centre providing access to vital community services in one convenient location.
The Council has partnered with the Victorian Government to build the Darebin Creek Community Centre at 185W Monakeeba Boulevard in Donnybrook-Woodstock.
The centre will include a three-room kindergarten, two Maternal and Child Health consulting suites, a dedicated community space, on-site parking and associated facilities.
Council will contribute $5.75 million towards the project’s delivery, with the Victorian Government committing $6.75 million through its Building Blocks Partnership program.
Donnybrook-Woodstock is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities and as more families choose to live in the area, access to community services is increasingly important.
“Anyone who has seen Donnybrook-Woodstock’s growth over recent years knows how important it is to keep pace with the needs of local families,” said Mayor, Lawrie Cox.
“Having kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health services and community spaces together in one location will make it easier for families to access support and services close to home.
“This centre will give parents and carers a place to connect, access advice and support, and help their children get the best possible start in life.
“I thank the Victorian Government for its support through the Building Blocks Partnership program, which is helping us deliver this important facility for the community.”
The centre, which will incorporate environmentally sustainable design initiatives, is expected to open in 2029.
