City of Perth planning and development gets tick of approval

The City of Perth Council has received top marks in the latest Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) benchmarking report for Planning and Development outcomes within the state’s local governments.

In late 2023, the Council was invited to participate in WALGA’s Performance Monitoring Program, which ranks local governments in WA in relation to their planning and building performance during the 2022/23 financial year.

The City of Perth Council was found to be well above the average for making timely decisions as well as approving development applications and building permits on time.

The report determined that 99.53% of all decisions at the City of Perth were made in a timely manner, compared to an average of 91.92 for WA local governments.

When it came to processing Development Applications in a timely manner the City’s performance rating was almost 13% higher at 99.3%, compared to 86.61.

Almost 100% of Building Permits were also completed on time, with the City recording an excellent 99.82% completion rate, compared to the average of 89.16%.

“These results underline the City’s commitment to progressing developments and construction that supports the community’s needs, now and in the future,” Council said in a statement.

“And, with our City Living incentives in place and our excellent record for timely approvals, there’s never been a better time to do business in the City of Perth.

“The City of Perth plans to participate in future years of the Performance Monitoring Program.”
