City of Launceston adopts first LGBTIQ+ Action Plan

City of Launceston Council has affirmed its commitment to strengthening inclusion, belonging and participation for LGBTIQ+ people across the municipality through the adoption of its first LGBTIQ+ Action Plan.

Councillors unanimously endorsed the adoption of the City of Launceston LGBTIQ+ Action Plan to guide Council’s actions over the next four years to foster a safe and welcoming city for all.

The adoption of the Action Plan follows work that began in June 2024, when Council endorsed a Notice of Motion supporting the development of an LGBTIQ+ Action Plan for the City of Launceston.

The motion called for a comprehensive program of community engagement to identify and understand the experiences, challenges and opportunities faced by members of the LGBTIQ+ community in Launceston.

As part of the extensive community consultation and engagement efforts, the Council LGBTIQ+ Community Survey received over 600 responses and the research report LGBTIQ+ Inclusion in Launceston received responses from more than 1,000 participants.
