City of Darwin Council has been recognised as a Committed Welcoming City for its leadership in creating a city where everyone can belong, contribute, and thrive, through the Welcoming Cities accreditation program.
Lord Mayor, Peter Styles said the accreditation marked a proud milestone for Darwin.
“We are incredibly proud of the vibrant city Darwin has become, with a blend of many cultures, languages, backgrounds and life experiences that shape our community,” Mayor Styles said.
“This recognition affirms the work we are already doing to ensure everyone feels valued, respected, and that they truly belong. Inclusion is not just a goal – it is part of who we are as a city.”
He said it also complements City of Darwin’s International Relations Program, which promotes the city as a culturally rich and globally connected capital.
The Welcoming Cities program helps councils benchmark their progress, strengthen inclusive practices, and connect with a national network of councils and community leaders.
By achieving accreditation, City of Darwin joins more than 105 councils nationwide committed to building welcoming communities.
