City of Casey residents can get active outside after dark this winter, with the launch of a council initiative that will see local sports grounds and recreation spaces lit up for community use once the sun goes down.
Designed to support informal and unstructured activities for residents – by lighting up sporting facilities when not being used by clubs, City of Casey Council is providing free, safe spaces for individuals and families to be active this winter, said Mayor, Stefan Koomen (pictured, right).
Mayor Koomen said the program makes it easier for people to get outdoors, meet friends and enjoy local facilities during the darker months.
“By encouraging more people to use local sports ovals after dark, we hope to help build a stronger sense of connection and improve feelings of safety across the community.”
“Active After Dark is part of our commitment to creating safer public spaces and supporting healthy, active communities.
“We’re lighting up space right across Casey, so check out where your nearest location is and come down for a walk, run or to kick the footy,” he said.
The Active After Dark initiative will run until September.
