City of Casey elects new leadership duo

City of Casey Council has announced the election of Councillor Michelle Crowther as Mayor and Councillor Anthony Walter as Deputy Mayor following a Special Council Meeting.

Both will serve in the roles until the Annual Mayoral Election scheduled for Tuesday 17 November.

The election follows the decision of former Mayor, Stefan Koomen, to step down from the role of Mayor to pursue a State election campaign.

Cr Crowther said she was honoured to have been elected by her fellow Councillors to serve as Mayor.

“Thank you to my fellow Councillors for this opportunity, and the trust that they have placed in me. Thank you to Cr Koomen for his leadership during the first two years of our Council term, and for his work in restoring trust in this Council,” she said.

“I promise to provide stability, a smooth transition and work to the meet the expectations of our community. I am committed to working with my fellow councillors to deliver practical, positive outcomes for the Casey community.

“Our group’s focus will continue to be delivering the key infrastructure our growing community needs and improving liveability for residents.

“One of my favourite things about being a Councillor is meeting the many amazing volunteers across Casey – as Mayor I look forward to meeting many more and better support the incredible work they do.

“I am a lifelong Casey resident and come from a battler family, growing up in the eighties and nineties in Cranbourne. My parents made many sacrifices for me and I am grateful for their support. I am honoured to serve as your Mayor.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank Cr Stefan Koomen for his service as Mayor and his contribution to our community.”
