Changing of guard for Queanbeyan Council

Councillor Kenrick Winchester has been elected Mayor of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, marking a changing of the guard for the council, which has been led by former Mayor, Tim Overall, for the past 14 years.

Mr Overall did not contest the top job at last night’s vote. Cr Winchester becomes just the third mayor of the region in three decades.

Cr Winchester, 38, was first elected to the Queanbeyan City Council in 2012. He was subsequently elected to the first Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council in 2017. Last night, he was elected Mayor for a two-year term.

First-time Councillor, Esma Livermore, has been elected as Deputy Mayor.

Cr Livermore is also the first identified Aboriginal female councillor for the Council.
