The WA Government has announced new service provider, The Crew, will commence daytime case management services for people experiencing rough sleeping in Rockingham and surrounds from today.
Local to the area, The Crew, has extensive experience supporting vulnerable Western Australians and will be offering a range of tailored supports, said Homelessness Minister, Matthew Swinbourn.
“The Crew is a highly respected service provider with extensive experience supporting Rockingham’s most vulnerable people,” said Mr Swinbourn.
“People experiencing homelessness deserve trauma-informed, local responses that are tailored to their needs, and that is exactly what these case management services will offer to people sleeping rough in the Rockingham area.
“The Cook Labor Government remains committed to investing in practical, place-based responses to homelessness, and we will continue to work with service providers across the State to ensure Western Australians doing it tough are connected to the supports they need.”
The daytime case management forms part of the Government’s $2.6 million investment to establish and operate the Rockingham Safe Night Space, which was announced in September and will provide safe overnight shelter for up to 30 people experiencing homelessness per night.
The Safe Night Space is being delivered by The Crew and will operate using a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach designed to engage people who may be unable to access or sustain traditional accommodation options.
“I am delighted The Crew will begin daytime case management services, only weeks after the Cook Labor Government announced that it would be funding a Safe Night Space for people experiencing homelessness in Rockingham,” said Rockingham MLA, Magenta Marshall.
“The Crew is a highly regarded organisation in Rockingham and it’s fantastic that they will be able to extend their services to help people with a range of needs, including pathways to housing, assistance with legal paperwork, and other relevant services.”
Another initiative, Mandurah Common Ground, is due for practical completion by the end of the year and will provide 50 self-contained apartments for adults experiencing homelessness or rough sleeping.
