Camden Council is inviting the community to have their say on its Draft Camden Housing Diversity Guide, which aims to support a greater variety of housing choices in future neighbourhoods across greenfield precincts in the South West Growth Area.
Now on public exhibition, the draft Guide has been developed to help Council, developers and builders plan neighbourhoods that offer a broader range of homes to suit different household needs, lifestyles, life stages and budgets.
Currently, around 93% of homes across the Camden Local Government Area are detached dwellings. As the area continues to grow and change, the draft Guide explores how a wider mix of housing types could provide more choice for current and future residents.
The Guide also considers the need for greener, walkable neighbourhoods and how housing can be strategically placed to encourage people to connect with others in their neighbourhood, as well as visit businesses in their local centres.
The draft Guide outlines planning principles and technical guidance to encourage housing diversity at the precinct, subdivision and individual lot levels. It focuses primarily on low-rise private market housing, including detached homes, secondary dwellings, dual occupancies, terraces, town homes, manor houses and low-rise apartment buildings.
“The draft Guide provides an opportunity to explore different types of homes and how they could contribute to well-planned, liveable neighbourhoods across the South West Growth Area,” said Mayor, Vince Ferreri.
“We want to hear from our community about what matters to them, so I encourage residents to take the time to review the draft Guide and provide feedback before the consultation closes,” he said.
The Council says community feedback will help it to refine the draft Guide before it is reported back to the organisation for consideration.
Residents are encouraged to review the draft Guide and share their feedback by lodging a submission or completing a short survey before Wednesday 25 November 2026.
